Baki Can, the third child of Melike and Adnan Sarsılmaz couple living in Germencik district, was born with Spina Bifida disease. For this reason, he has undergone various surgeries. When his father, Adnan Sarsılmaz, could not afford the cost of a new surgery, an aid campaign was initiated. Famous musician Haluk Levent also supported the campaign and the necessary amount of money was collected in a short time. Baki Can’s surgery was successfully performed. Baki Can, who regained his health after the surgery, is now waiting with the hope of going to school in a healthy way.

Performing the surgery, Dr. Nail Ozdemir and Dr. Özgür Akşan stated that Baki Can suffered from urinary and fecal incontinence due to adhesions of spinal nerves. Adhesions are cleared and reflexes are expected to get stronger. Özdemir and Akşan, who said that most of those with this disease are confined to a wheelchair, stated that Baki Can has the potential to walk. It has been stated that the disease can be detected by screening tests during pregnancy and its incidence is quite low in the country.

Baki Can’s mother, Melike Sarsılmaz, stated that her son had a difficult childhood and was hopeful thanks to the campaign. He stated that Baki Can had a desire to continue school and lead a healthy life in the future.
