Important Developments
The Number of Intraoperative MRI Centres is Increasing: The number of centres capable of performing surgery with intraoperative MRI in major centres in Istanbul and Ankara is increasing. This technology aims to increase the rate of complete tumour removal in brain tumour surgery; however, the difference obtained in studies was not found to be statistically significant.1
Robotic Spine Surgery is Becoming Widespread: Mazor and ExcelsiusGPS robotic systems are actively used in various centres in Turkey. Turkish surgeons are attracting attention on international platforms in minimally invasive spine surgery.
Gamma Knife and Radiosurgery: There are centres offering treatment with Gamma Knife in Turkey.
Academic Achievements
Active roles are undertaken within the WFNS (World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies) and EANS (European Association of Neurosurgical Societies).
International Congresses
The Turkish Neurosurgical Society organises its national scientific congress every year; Istanbul also hosts international neurosurgery meetings.
Health Tourism
Neurosurgery centres in Turkey also provide services to patients coming from abroad.
