What is this Condition?

Tethered cord syndrome occurs when the lower end of the spinal cord is abnormally attached to surrounding tissues. As the child grows, this can cause spinal cord damage. Early surgical treatment is recommended.

Diagnosis Methods

MRI evaluates the spinal cord and surrounding tissues. Urodynamic tests assess bladder function.

Treatment Methods

Surgical release (detethering) frees the spinal cord and prevents progression.
