What is this Condition?

Symptoms

Confusion, disorientation to time-place-person, slowing of attention and thought
Imbalance, staggering gait, difficulty standing (ataxia)
Ocular movement disorders: involuntary eye tremor, diplopia, inability to move eyes laterally
Apathy, lethargy, in severe cases profound somnolence
Numbness and paresthesias in hands and feet, weakness (associated neuropathy)
Hypotension, palpitations, hypothermia

Treatment Methods

High-dose B1 vitamin (thiamine) intravenously — without delay
Dose reduction as symptoms improve and oral maintenance vitamin therapy
Nutritional correction, maintenance of fluid and mineral balance
Physical therapy and cognitive support for balance and memory disorders
