What is this Condition?
Lumbar disc herniation occurs when the outer layer of the soft disc between vertebrae tears and the inner part protrudes, pressing on nerves. It most commonly occurs at L4-L5 and L5-S1 levels.
Symptoms
Lower back pain
Pain radiating to the leg (sciatica)
Numbness and tingling in the leg
Muscle weakness
Difficulty walking
Loss of sensation in the foot
Diagnosis Methods
Diagnosis is made through physical examination, lumbar MRI imaging, and EMG.
Treatment Methods
Physical therapy and medication for mild cases, surgical intervention may be required for severe cases.
