What is this Condition?
Spinal cord tumors are neoplasms that develop within (intramedullary) or around (extramedullary) the spinal cord. The most common intramedullary tumors are ependymomas and astrocytomas.
Diagnosis Methods
Contrast-enhanced spinal MRI is performed for tumor localization and characterization. Definitive diagnosis is established through histopathological evaluation following surgery.
Treatment Methods
Surgical excision is the primary treatment. Safe resection is targeted with intraoperative neuromonitoring. Radiotherapy may be added for malignant tumors.
