Arterial Catheterization, Pressure Measurement and Monitoring
Continuous blood pressure monitoring via intra-arterial catheter
What is This Treatment?
A procedure in which a catheter is placed in the radial, femoral, or dorsalis pedis artery for continuous invasive blood pressure measurement. It is essential for cerebral perfusion pressure calculation and hemodynamic optimization in critical neurosurgical patients.
Benefits
- Enables beat-to-beat continuous blood pressure monitoring
- Provides necessary data for cerebral perfusion pressure calculation
- Allows frequent blood gas and laboratory sampling
- Provides precise monitoring for vasoactive drug titration
Treatment Process
Under sterile conditions, the artery is palpated or located with ultrasound. A catheter is placed into the arterial lumen using the Seldinger technique and connected to a pressure transducer.
When is it used?
- Hemodynamic monitoring in the ICU
- Cerebral perfusion pressure monitoring
- Vasoactive drug management
- Frequent arterial blood gas sampling
Recovery and planning
The catheter remains in place for the duration of need. Hemostasis is achieved with pressure after removal.
