Epidural Block (Lumbar/Caudal)

Injection for pain control and treatment at the spinal canal level

What is This Treatment?

Epidural Block (Lumbar/Caudal) is a procedure in which local anesthetic, steroid, or opioid is injected into the target area within the spinal canal (subarachnoid, epidural, or transforaminal) for pain control. Medication is administered through a single injection into the lumbar or caudal epidural space.

Benefits

  • Provides strong and long-lasting pain relief in the target area
  • Offers a conservative treatment alternative to surgery
  • Repeatable with adjustable dosing
  • Minimizes systemic side effects through local action

Treatment Process

The target area is identified under fluoroscopy or ultrasound guidance. A spinal needle is advanced under sterile conditions and medication is injected after position confirmation.

When is it used?

  • Chronic back and leg pain treatment
  • Radiculopathy from disc herniation
  • Spinal stenosis pain management
  • Post-surgical pain control

Recovery and planning

Observation for 30-60 minutes after the procedure. Temporary leg numbness may occur. Same-day discharge is typical.
