Total Spinal Canal Myelography via Lumbar Route

Imaging of the entire spinal canal by injecting contrast through the lower back

What is This Treatment?

A diagnostic procedure in which contrast material injected into the subarachnoid space via lumbar puncture is distributed throughout the entire spinal canal for comprehensive radiological evaluation of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions.

Benefits

  • Allows evaluation of the entire spinal canal in a single session
  • Enables simultaneous imaging of multi-level pathologies
  • Combined with CT shows bone and soft tissue details
  • Gold standard alternative when MRI is contraindicated

Treatment Process

Contrast material is administered via lumbar puncture. The patient is positioned in various ways to distribute the contrast throughout the entire spinal canal. Comprehensive imaging is performed with fluoroscopy and CT.

When is it used?

  • Multi-level spinal canal stenosis assessment
  • Determining the extent of spinal tumors
  • Preoperative planning for complex spinal pathologies
  • Evaluation of CSF circulation disorders

Recovery and planning

Rest for several hours and generous fluid intake are recommended after the procedure. Temporary headache and nausea may occur.
