What is this Condition?

Chronic subdural hematoma is a blood collection that develops slowly over weeks or months, usually after mild head trauma. It is more common in the elderly, those on anticoagulants, and individuals with alcohol dependency. Symptoms have an insidious onset and may be confused with dementia.

Diagnosis Methods

Brain CT shows characteristic crescent-shaped appearance for diagnosis. MRI provides more detailed evaluation.

Treatment Methods

In most cases, burr hole drainage is sufficient. Subduroperitoneal shunt may be required for recurrent cases.
