What is this Condition?

An epidural hematoma is a collection of blood between the skull bone and the dura mater. It usually occurs due to middle meningeal artery injury following head trauma. Classically, there is brief loss of consciousness after trauma, followed by a lucid interval, then rapid deterioration. Emergency surgical intervention is life-saving.

Diagnosis Methods

Emergency brain CT shows a biconvex (lens-shaped) hyperdense lesion which is typical.

Treatment Methods

Emergency craniotomy for hematoma evacuation and control of bleeding vessel is required.
