Early Signs in Brain Tumor Diagnosis
Why is early diagnosis of brain tumors important? Information about symptoms to watch for and diagnostic methods.
Brain tumors are masses formed by the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells in brain tissue. Early diagnosis significantly increases treatment success. Therefore, knowing and paying attention to symptoms is vital.
Symptoms to Watch For
The most common symptoms of brain tumors are severe headaches in the morning, nausea and vomiting, vision problems, balance disorders, seizures, personality changes, and speech difficulties. These symptoms vary according to the size, location, and growth rate of the tumor.
Diagnostic Methods
The first step in suspected brain tumor is a detailed neurological examination. Then MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is the gold standard. If necessary, CT (computed tomography), PET scan, and stereotactic biopsy provide definitive diagnosis. The genetic characteristics of the tumor are also important in treatment planning.
Treatment Approaches
Brain tumor treatment is planned according to the type, size, and location of the tumor. Surgical removal, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies may be used. Radiosurgery methods such as Gamma Knife offer non-surgical treatment options, especially for deep-seated or small tumors.
